The purpose of the L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge is to highlight the innovation and imagination of automotive designers from around the world. The challenge is part of the L.A. Auto Show's Design Los Angeles, a professional conference for automotive designers. It's a chance for the people who literally shape what our cars look like to discuss challenges, share breakthroughs and generally strut their stuff.

For the fifth design challenge, teams from Audi, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mistubishi, Toyota and Volkswagen submitted designs for the types of race cars they imagine competing in 2025. In some cases, the designers not only imagine a totally different type of car, but also a totally different type of car race.

Designers from Audi picture a car race with banks and tunnels that allow the cars to invert and pass someone by driving on the ceiling of a tunnel. Mazda's team imagined a racing series for electric cars, while General Motors imagined an eco-triathlon racing series. Honda's team stretched the limits of space, time and imagination by coming up with a race where competitors must circumnavigate the globe in 24 hours on land, air and sea -- and they must do it all in the same vehicle. Volkswagen's team imagined a fairly conventional Baja race track, but with the added rule that racers may only use 10 gallons (37.9 liters) of fuel to complete the entire course. Toyota didn't change the rules of Le Mans racing, but imagined a car reaching speeds of 350 miles per hour (563.3 kilometers per hour) that can change shape for optimal handing and also uses virtual reality to help the driver stay on-track.

While the teams come from a diverse group of automakers, each company has a racing heritage. Mercedes-Benz has perhaps the deepest racing heritage of the group, having raced cars for most of the 20th century. But even smaller companies like Mitsubishi are well respected on the rally-car circuit, while cars from General Motors have long been staples on American stock car racing tracks.

KTM revealed today the racing version of its X-Bow sports car; the X-Bow GT4 Race car is a a fully FIA homologated GT4 Sports Light racing car. that features more than 30 changes compared to the standard version.

Among other this changes includes: racing dampers, brake pads, catalytic converter and tires; carbon fibre windscreen extension; racing airbox design, extended rear bumper and many, many more.

The X-Bow Race car is powered by the Audi’s 2.0-liter TFSI engine that delivers 240 hp. This will help the car to make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3,9 seconds and hit a top speed of 137 mph.

Recently, I was lucky enough to take a spin around the Queensland Raceway in a V8 race car courtesy of a Christmas present from my lovely wife. The Queensland Raceway is west of Brisbane and hosts a number of high profile events during the year, including Round Seven of the V8 Supercar Championship, Champ Car Racing and drift competitions. For me though, it was all about the V8 Race Experience, where you get suited up and jump behind the wheel of a V8 race car for either five or eight laps of the circuit. Let me just say at the outset that I've never driven a car on a race track before, so the nerves were peaking from the moment I started the drive out to the track.

Upon arrival and after all the usual paperwork was out of the way, the head instructor took us through a tutorial to teach us some of the basics of driving a race car on a race track:
  • First of all, it's nothing like driving a street car on the road
  • You have to follow the racing line, which involves using the entire expanse of the road
  • Different types of corners require different strategies to wring the most speed out of them
  • Accelerate out of the apex of the corner
  • You brake not only to reduce speed but also to shift the weight of the vehicle from the back of the car to the front of the car, and importantly, over the front wheels
  • Brake 10 percent to start shifting the weight then 100 percent to really slow down the car before a tight corner
  • On this track in these cars you only use third and fourth gear
  • Hold the accelerator flat to get the highest speed on the straight

It wasn't an easy task to make it into the field at the 4th annual LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals at the Texas Motorplex. However Clyde Scott and his G-Force Race Cars built 63 Vette made easy work of it running a 3.91 @ nearly 195 mph. Good enough for the 14th spot and putting him against Scott Cannon 1st round. Clyde put an .029 light to Cannon's .056 and was able to hold off for the win with a 3.90 @ 193 mph. However when the clutch came in during the 2nd round Scott's Vette couldn't hold on and smoked the tires, giving Hernandez just enough time to recover and take the victory.

Zito Takes 08' MOMs Title

New York International Raceway Park was the scene for the final race of the 2008 MOMs (Mustang on Mustang) Racing Series. Since 1995 the MOMs event has hosted great heads up pro tree racing and this year was no different. Joe Zito driving his Kennedy's Dynotune sponsored, G-Force Race Cars built '92 LX, used consistent performance to clinch this years title. The race was shortened to a 1/8 mile event when temperatures struggled to get into 50's and made track conditions less then favorable at the top end. When asked about it Joe said "The track crew did an outstanding job under the circumstance, there's not much you can do when it gets this cold". Zito qualified # 1 with a 5.76 and held off a great effort by Terry Doyle in the final round to take the win with a 5.69 to Doyle's 5.99 . Joe wanted to thank his sponsor Bob Kennedy also, Matt Shaft, NYIRP owners, crew and the MOMs organization for a great year. Joe also wanted to thank Jim Salemi at G-Force Race Cars, Competition Data Systems, Ram Clutches and Electromotive Engine Controls.

5 In The 5's For G-Force

In the past 2 weeks G-Force Race Cars has almost doubled their number of cars in the 5 second zone. The latest two who have accomplished the feat are Taylor Lastor who ran a 5.96 @ almost 242 mph at the NHRA Virginia Nationals in Richmond, as well as Ed Hoover running a 5.98 @ 237 mph at The Rock last weekend. Joining the ranks of Raymond Commisso, Mike Janis, as well as Mike Stawicki all of whom run in the 5’s on a consistent basis.

1st 5-Second Pass For Hoover

Even though Ed Hoover and his Trussell Motorsports team had an early exit Sunday afternoon in the IHRA World Finals at Rockingham, they left on a good note. After Friday’s qualifiers were rained out, the Pro-Modified field only had 2 chances to make the show. Well Hoover took that as a challenge and blasted off to a personal best 6.01 @ 234 mph and then to a 5.98 @ 237 mph. Not only was this another new best E.T. for Ed in one weekend, but it’s his 1st pass in the 5’s! G-Force Race Cars would like to Congratulate Ed and all of Trussell Motorsports team for a great pair of runs over the weekend and adding another G-Force Car in the 5’s
